THROUGH HER WORK IN THE PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION SINCE STARTING AS A BUILDER SERVICE SPECIALIST IN 2005, AND THEN LATER TRANSFERRED TO PARKS DIVISION IN 2008, MISS JANEY HAS HELD SEVERAL ROLES OF INCREASING RESPONSIBILITY, INCLUDING PARKS AND RECREATION ASSISTANT, PARKS EVENT COORDINATOR, PARKS ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR AND CURRENTLY ADMINISTRATIVE AND ACTIVITY SPECIALIST. THAT'S A LOT TO SAY. THROUGHOUT HER TENURE, SHE HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN COORDINATING SPECIAL EVENTS, OVERSEEING ATHLETIC LEAGUES, AND SUPPORTING THE OPERATIONS OF PARKS FACILITIES. AND I JUST GOT CURIOUS AS THE PROGRAM WAS GOING ON, AND I PULLED UP THE BECAUSE THEY MENTIONED THE POPULATION OF THE STATE CAPITAL OF SOUTH DAKOTA PIER, SOUTH DAKOTA IS 14,000 PEOPLE. THAT'S A THIRD OF THE SIZE OF OUR DISTRICTS. AND THEN THAT MADE ME LOOK. AND THE ENTIRE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA IS JUST UNDER A MILLION PEOPLE. AND SO OUR COUNTY IS A FIFTH OF THE SIZE OF THE STATE. AND IT JUST IT FASCINATES ME AGAIN OF YOU TALKED ABOUT WHAT THE MEN AND WOMEN DO WHO SERVE, BUT THAT WE HAVE WITH THE FEDERALISM AND THE WAY THAT OUR FOUNDING FATHERS SET US UP, THAT THE SENATE MAJORITY LEADER IS FROM A STATE OF 900,000 PEOPLE AND IS ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THE THINGS HE DOES AND TO DO THE THINGS HE DOES. I'M JUST I AM FASCINATED BY HOW THIS COUNTRY IS ABLE TO OPERATE ITSELF IN THE WAY WE'VE MADE IT THROUGH THE YEARS, WITH THE WAY THAT THIS WAS SET UP. AS WE COME UP ON, YOU KNOW, NEXT YEAR, WE'RE GOING TO COME UP ON ANOTHER ANNIVERSARY OF HOW LONG WE'VE BEEN IN EXISTENCE AS A COUNTRY. AND SO THAT WAS JUST FASCINATING TO ME. IT'S BEEN FASCINATING, AND IT'S BEEN AN HONOR TO SERVE WITH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF Y'ALL HERE, ROBERT, FOR FOR FIVE YEARS NOW. CLAIRE FOR THREE, I THINK IT IS NOW AND THEN. YOU GENTLEMEN, THE PAST YEAR I HAVE ENJOYED MY TIME AS CHAIR, HOPING TO ADD A LITTLE LEVITY TO THE SERIOUSNESS THAT WE DO AND JUST SOME ENJOYMENT HERE. BUT I DO WANT TO ANNOUNCE, BECAUSE I'VE BEEN ASKED THIS QUITE A BIT. THE LAST TIME I WAS UP FOR ELECTION WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE TIME MY FATHER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ALZHEIMER'S. AND WHILE HE'S DOING WELL, THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS THAT COME AND TAKE PRIORITIES. AND WITH THAT, I KNOW THAT WITH WHERE MY FAMILY IS HEADING, I WILL NOT BE SEEKING REELECTION FOR THE NEXT TIME. I'M GOING TO SERVE OUT THIS YEAR AND CONTINUE TO REPRESENT THE CONSTITUENTS OF MY DISTRICT AND BE ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF THOSE THINGS. BUT IF I KNOW I'VE HAD CONVERSATIONS WITH Y'ALL, AND I'VE ALWAYS SAID AND WITH MY EMPLOYEES, FAMILY ALWAYS COMES FIRST. AND SO WITH THAT, I'M GOING TO SERVE OUT THIS YEAR WITH Y'ALL. I LOOK FORWARD TO DOING IT. SOME OF Y'ALL MIGHT CONSIDER ME A LAME DUCK. TRY ME. I'LL HAVE FUN WITH IT. I'M STILL GOING TO FIGHT FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IN.AND THEN FROM THAT, LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY AS A PRIVATE CITIZEN. BECAUSE I THINK ONE THING THAT Y'ALL ALL APPRECIATE AS WELL IS WHILE THE FIVE OF US MIGHT HAVE A VOTE, THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT SERVE IN THIS COMMUNITY THAT AFFECT OUR COMMUNITY IN WAYS. AND THAT'S MORE THAN JUST BEING ABLE TO SIT UP HERE AND HAVE A VOTE.
