AS YOU KNOW, WE WERE DIRECTED TO LOOK INTO THE POSSIBILITY OF A GRANT PROGRAM OFFERED TO A PASSIVE FITNESS COURT THAT WENT THROUGH A SPECIFIC COMPANY. IN TALKING WITH COLLEAGUES AND VENDORS, WE CAME TO LEARN A LOT ABOUT PASSIVE EXERCISE EQUIPMENT AND ITS USAGE, ITS COSTS AND ITS TREND. LIKE GOING THAT THE YOUNGER GENERATION IS REALLY MOVING A LOT MORE TOWARDS PHYSICAL FITNESS THAN AND ESPECIALLY GYM MEMBERSHIPS AND WEIGHTS AND STUFF. THAT BEING SAID, THE ADDITION OF THESE EQUIPMENT STATIONS OR FITNESS COURTS HAS BECOME A GROWING THING ALONG TRAILS AND WALKING TRAILS AND OTHER AREAS WHERE, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE CAN, YOU KNOW, WALK, RUN, REST OR NOT REST. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? SO WE'VE IDENTIFIED A COUPLE OF LOCATIONS THAT WE THINK THESE THIS WOULD GO REALLY WELL, POPULATION DENSITY AS WELL AS EXISTING WALKING TRAILS OR NEW PROPOSED WALKING TRAILS IN THE AREA. AT LAST MEETING, WE TALKED ABOUT A COUPLE OF THE ONES THAT WERE ALREADY OPERATING IN THE AREA AND HOW THEY'RE GETTING A LOT OF ATTENTION AND THOUGHT THAT MAYBE BY DIGGING A LITTLE BIT DEEPER INTO WHAT'S OFFERED, WE COULD COME UP WITH SOME BETTER FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE, FISCALLY MORE CONSERVATIVE COSTS. THE THE ONE WE PROPOSED WITH THE FITNESS COURT, THE LARGE ONE, RAN A 197 TO $250,000, GIVE OR TAKE. AND THAT WAS AFTER A 30 TO $50,000 GRANT THROUGH THEIR COMPANY. WE'VE SINCE REACHED OUT TO TWO ADDITIONAL COMPANIES, ONE OF THEM BEING KOMPAN, WHICH PROVIDED US A MUCH MORE, IN MY OPINION, REASONABLE, REASONABLE QUOTE. IT'S DIFFERENT. IT'S MORE EXERCISE EQUIPMENT THAN A LARGE SCALE COURT. BUT THEY COME, THEY'RE COMING. THEY'RE BASICALLY A TOTAL WOULD BE ABOUT 70. AND THEN WITH EXTRA ADD ONS COULD GO UP TO AS MUCH AS 160. SO RIGHT THERE, YOU'RE ALREADY SEEING A BIT OF A DISCOUNT IN COMPARED TO THE FITNESS COURT. AND OUTDOOR FIT DECLINED TO GIVE US A QUOTE PER. AND UNTIL YOU GUYS WOULD LIKE BACK US IN LOOKING AT THIS STUFF, BUT THEY'RE FROM TALKING WITH OTHER COLLEAGUES, THEY'RE VERY REASONABLE. MOST OF THEIR STUFF IS NOT THE. IT'S DESIGNED MORE FOR LONGEVITY USE THAN BEING ESTHETICALLY PLEASING, BUT THAT THAT HAS ITS OWN PLACE TOO. SO WITH REGARDS TO THAT, WE'RE JUST ASKING THAT FOR TRAINING TO THE MASTER PLAN OF IMPROVING TRAILS AND SPECIFICALLY WALKING TRAILS THAT THE BOARD APPROVED STAFF TO BUDGET AND PLAN FOR EQUIPMENT IN THESE LOCATIONS MOVING FORWARD OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS. I GUESS Y'ALL JUST DEVELOP A BUDGET. ESSENTIALLY WHAT WE WE'D TAKE WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW, GET SOME MORE STUFF FROM OTHER VENDORS, SPECIFICALLY OUTDOOR FIT, AND THEN KIND OF CHOOSE WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST FOR THE COUNTY. USUALLY VERY METROPOLITAN AREAS, HIGHLY POPULATED AREAS. AND THAT JUST SEEMS LIKE A WHEN, WHEN I, WHEN I HEARD THE THE PROPOSAL LAST WEEK, IT WAS BEING DRIVEN BY AN INITIATIVE OR A COMPANY THAT OFFERS GRANTS FOR IT. SO THEREFORE I'M THINKING, WELL, WHY DOES SOMETHING LIKE THAT EVEN GET TO TO US WHEN WE HAVE THIS BIG LONG LIST OF ALL KINDS OF PROJECTS AND WE HAVE STRATEGIC PLAN FROM 2022, I DON'T SEE ANYTHING IN THERE RELATING TO THIS, TO THAT PLAN. I DIDN'T SEE ANY. THE MOST RECENT PLAN THAT WE PUT TOGETHER WAS THE PROJECT PLAN. AND THIS DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THAT. SO MY PERCEPTION IS THAT I DON'T KNOW IF WE'VE PIVOTED, IF WE'VE BEEN INFLUENCED BY THIS COMPANY. IT JUST SEEMS A LITTLE OFF THE THE PATH THAT WE HAVE BEEN ON. AND, AND I'M NOT SAYING WE ARE, I'M JUST SAYING BASED ON WHAT I'M, WHAT I'M, WHAT I'M, YOU KNOW, WHAT I. HEARD AT THE LAST MEETING BECAUSE WE, WE DON'T WE HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE. YOU KNOW, WE'VE, WE'VE BEEN SO RESPONSIVE TO. THE SKATEBOARDERS THAT SHOWED UP THE, THE, THE DISC GOLF PEOPLE THAT SHOWED UP. THAT'S KIND OF BEEN WHAT WE'VE BEEN REACTIONARY TO ARE THOSE GROUPS THAT MOBILIZED AND, AND WHATNOT. AND I JUST, I JUST DIDN'T THINK THIS FIT THE MOLD. WELL, SO THE ONES THAT GET ACTIVE, RIGHT, HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPRESS THEIR ACTIVISM TO US AND WE CAN RESPOND TO IT POSITIVELY OR WE CAN, YOU KNOW, AND EVEN WHEN WE RESPOND TO SOMETHING POSITIVELY, DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE'VE GOT MONEY IN THE BUDGET FOR IT TO HAPPEN IN THE NEXT 2 OR 3 OR 4 OR 5 YEARS. WE'VE WE'VE SEEN PARKS DEPARTMENT HAS STRUGGLED. IT SEEMS LIKE THERE'S BEEN THE LAST MEETING. THERE WAS ANOTHER THING THAT CAME UP. MY GOSH, YOU GOT TEN PROJECTS GOING ON, LOTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS THAT HAVE THAT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE PREVIOUS 4 OR 5 YEARS, NOT NOT NEARLY AS MUCH, JUST DIDN'T SEEM LIKE WE WERE BEING FUNDED. FOR IT. A LOT OF WE, WE'VE GOT THEY'VE BEEN WE'VE BEEN PRETTY GOOD WITH FUNDING. HONESTLY, THE LAST FOUR YEARS COMPARED TO WHAT WE WERE. AND THEY, THEY'VE GOT AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF WORK DONE. I THINK THIS IS A THING THAT THE THE PARKS AND RECREATION STAFF IS, IS FEELING LIKE IT'S A, IT'S A, WE'RE LOOKING AT MARKETS BIGGER THAN OURS WITH THIS. AND IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING THAT'S HAPPENING. AND IT WAS JUST SORT OF LOW HANGING FRUIT A LITTLE BIT TO MOVE IN A MORE PROGRESSIVE DIRECTION WITH THE WAY WE PRESENT OUR PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITIES AND THE THINGS THAT PEOPLE CAN USE. AND I GUESS AT THE END OF THE DAY, WHAT WHAT WE'RE ASKING FOR WITH THIS PARTICULAR AGENDA ITEM IS WHETHER OR NOT YOU GUYS ARE INTERESTED IN US PURSUING, PUTTING A BUDGET TOGETHER FOR IT AND PUTTING IT INTO THE BUDGET.
